Local volunteers recognised at Westminster Community Awards
Twenty one volunteers were recognised for their outstanding contribution to the community at the Westminster Community Awards on 1st June. The event took place at the Victory Services Club near Marble Arch and was attended by 120 volunteers and voluntary sector organisations, Councillor Steve Summers, Lord Mayor of Westminster and Sir Simon Milton Foundation Trustee, Lisa Milton.
Awards were presented across six categories including inspirational award, volunteer of the year award and young or student volunteer award. The Sir Simon Milton Award recognises those working with older people and disadvantaged younger people.
The winner was Jane Buchanan, from St. John’s Hospice, and highly commended were Josh Clark, Holy Apostles Sports Club, Saloah Al-Sakar, Arabic Women’s Social Group, Open Age and Jessica McDermott, Westminster Arts.
The Sir Simon Milton Foundation was delighted to award grants to each of these organisations and an individual prize for the winner.
