The Queen visits our Show Garden at Chelsea
The Queen visited us on the opening day of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show at our Show Garden, '500 Years of Covent Garden - The Sir Simon Milton Foundation Garden in partnership with Capco', on the prestigious Main Avenue of the Show. Her Majesty was presented with a gift to mark Capco's support for the Foundation's Show Garden.
At Covent Garden, Capco hosts an annual ceremony where the Covent Garden Area Trust pays a rent of a posy and an apple for each of the headleases, acknowledging their joint commitment to preserving the rich heritage of the area. Michelle McGrath, Capco Director of Covent Garden, Robert Davis, Founding Trustee of the Foundation and Lee Bestall, the Garden's designer presented Her Majesty a similar posy and apple as part of the celebration of “500 Years of Covent Garden” at Chelsea this year.
The Garden celebrates Covent Garden’s early roots as a fruit orchard belonging to Westminster Abbey, its centuries as a flower, fruit and vegetable market, and the popular shopping and dining destination it is today.
