Sir Simon Milton Westminster University Technical College opens
Wednesday 6th September was a momentous day for the Foundation as the brand new, state of the art, Sir Simon Milton Westminster UTC, set up in memory of Sir Simon Milton, London’s visionary public service leader, opened its doors in Pimlico to its very first students. We have started with 120 pupils split fairly evenly between Years 10 and 12.
This has been a project five years in the making, from the first light bulb moment of one of our Founding Trustees, Christabel Flight. It has required a huge effort by a vast array of people. The opening is just a start, but we would like to acknowledge the contribution of so many people from so many organisations: the Board of the UTC; Westminster City Council; our fellow founding members, the University of Westminster and Network Rail; and other members of our amazing Employer's Alliance, Land Securities, Transport for London, Crossrail, BT Fleet, Sir Robert McAlpine, Colas UK and Alstom.
Our best wishes go to Karen Barker, Principal of the UTC, who has been in post since April and has worked tirelessly to get the school ready to teach, ably supported by Mike Finn, the Deputy Principal. Most importantly of all we wish all the pupils and the staff every success in the coming year.
