Case Study: Shane, Nursing Home Activities Co-ordinator

Shane (Nursing Home Activities Co-ordinator) wrote “This is just a quick note to thank you so much for the kind gifts of those hampers at Christmas.

One of our residents who received one had a visit from his estranged son. They hadn’t met for the last eight years. The son had been living in Australia for the last few years and they had lost contact. The father had serious health needs and had been living with us for the last couple of months. They made contact over the phone and the father made it clear that he didn’t have long left to live. The son flew over and they were reunited.

It was such a lovely thing to witness and really humbled me as a man. I was delighted to be able to give these guys a beautiful hamper full of goodies for them both to enjoy over the festive period. The son was blown away completely and was left with such a great feeling that his father was in a safe place being looked after till the end of his life. The gentleman passed away early in the New Year but at the funeral the son made mention of the hamper and the care, love and support his father received.”

We will be repeating this programme this year and hope to reach even more isolated and lonely older people. If you want to help, for example, by donating Christmas hampers, please get in touch with us.
