Tea Dances

Westminster Tea Dance 2023

On 10th December 2023 the magnificent Great Room in The Grosvenor House Hotel was buzzing with music, singing and dancing, accompanied by a sumptuous afternoon tea at the Westminster Tea Dance.

As always it was a hugely popular event. Over 1,000 Westminster residents enjoyed delicious tea, sandwiches and cakes while being entertained by the wonderful sound of the Red Stripe band. Students from the Sylvia Young Theatre School delighted the audience with a spectacular musical medley. Rashmi Becker, from Step Change Studios, an inclusive Latin and Ballroom dance company and her partner Lawrence James performed two dazzling ballroom routines. Special guest, Derrick Evens aka Mr Motivator, joined guests at the special event.

As in the past, we awarded a luxury hamper to the oldest person in the room (104!), generously gifted to us by Fortnum & Mason – nobody does hampers better!

For many years now the Tea Dance has been joined by Police Cadets who dance with our guests – the cadets even take a dance lesson beforehand to ensure they know their waltz from their quickstep.

We are as ever grateful to our generous major sponsor, Shaftesbury Capital PLC, Fortnum & Mason for their luxury Christmas hamper and to the Grosvenor House Hotel team, who look after us so well. Finally the event could not run smoothly without the help of dozens of volunteers from 'Westminster Connects' and Westminster Councillors, Council staff and friends.

“The first time I have had an excuse to dress up in a long time. I
loved it!”

“Thank you for such a great show and all involved in this extraordinary tea party. Absolutely essential for older people that may find it difficult to go to events like this that makes them feel part of the community.”
